The Moringa Fellowship will span 11 weeks, beginning on July 6, 2020. Working closely and remotely with other fellows and mentors, you'll build a digital product solution to address the health, social, and economic consequences caused by COVID-19.
All fellows will be expected to commit up to 20 hours each week, though you'll likely spend less time than that week-over-week. Additionally, schedules will be flexible and agreed upon with all fellows and mentors during the first week.
Admittedly, we are in the process of identifying a project for our fellows. To that end, we expect to deliver a clearly defined problem statement that:
Focuses on issues related to the health, social, or economic consequences of COVID-19 (ideally in a way that explicitly centers racial equity as part of the solution)
Enables a digital product solution that can be designed and fully shipped within 11 weeks
Includes enough context and constraints for fellows to get started, as well as complexity for the cohort to explore and conduct usability research
Challenges our fellows to define who they're designing for and success criteria
What you’ll get
As a fellow, you'll work directly with a mentor that aligns with your Product Management, Product Design, or Software Engineering discipline. You'll gain hands-on experience and develop your technical craft, as well as strengthen your communication, collaboration, and product thinking. Fellows will also receive a $5300 stipend (not deducting taxes.)
Who we're looking for
Underrepresented, early career professionals who:
Have had their Product Management, Product Design, and Software Engineering internships rescinded or cancelled due to COVID-19
Can commit up to 20 hours per week for 11 weeks, beginning July 6 and ending September 18, 2020
The application deadline is June 15th, 2020 at 11:59PM (PST). The application process will involve submitting a set of standard documents, followed by one phone or video call interview for a selected subset of applicants.
All applications are due on June 15th, 2020 at 11:59PM (PST). Within a few days of the deadline, we will evaluate all submissions and invite a subset of applicants to a final round phone or video call with one of our volunteers.
Afterwards, we will select and extend offers to three fellows, one from each discipline. Offers will be sent out no later than June 26th, and they will expire on June 29th, 2020.
Note: Given the rigorous timeline of this fellowship, we unfortunately cannot extend the offer deadline. However, we are more than happy to be a resource as you evaluate your options.
Who will be mentoring me?
We'll pair you with a mentor who shares our values and has at least 2 years of full-time experience in your discipline. For example, the Product Design Fellow will be partnered with someone who has at least 2 years of full-time Product Design experience.
Is this a full-time program?
This is a part-time program. You won't spend more than 20 hours a week on this fellowship, and we anticipate that you'll often spend less.
When will I get paid?
As a fellow, you will be paid a $5300 stipend (not deducting taxes.) The stipend will be split into biweekly payments.
Note: If we exceed our fundraising goal, all additional funds will go towards fellow stipends.
